just downloaded the installer for Windows app 5.3.0 and smartscreen blocks it as a “not commonly downloaded app”. Has this already been reported to MS?
Unfortunately MS does not make it easy to prevent this even with signed software this sometimes happens.
Are you sure Windows Defender treats it as a virus? I suspect this is a “Potentially unwanted applications (PUA)” blocking feature brought in by a Windows 10 half-yearly update.
Its not treating it as a virus if that were the case it would be blocked and deleted. Windows does this thing where when it sees something new or something that matches some criteria it has it warns the user that its potentially harmful.
