I have downloaded the onlykey app installer for windows as well as the portable version. The installer appears to install everything, but the onlykey app wont open up. If I click the shortcut after install, nothing seems to happen. If I run the portable version of the app, I can see it in the task manager for about 10 seconds and then it disappears and never opens. I have tried running as admin and tried playing with compatibility settings with no success.
I don’t know what the problem is, but I want to give you some info in case you figure it out. I am also running the app fine on my Windows 11.
Windows 11 Pro 24H2
OnlyKey_5.3.6
When I run the shortcut, it invokes “nw.exe,” which then invokes “nwjs.exe”; the latter is the ultimate process that controls the app. The switch-over from nw to nwjs, both with the OnlyKey icon, happens more or less immediately.
I would personally try a clean uninstall (maybe using Revo) and then reinstall. If that doesn’t work, try it on another Windows 11 machine.
Uninstall and using the portable version didnt help.
I dont have Sentinel One but tried disabling all windows built in protections to see if something was causing the issue, and it didnt help.
I then tried running the portable version and noticed that 4 instances of NWJS were sitting in the task manager. Each time I ran onlykey portable I got 2 more instances in the task manager. I forced closed it. Re ran the portable version and it opened up fine. Keep in mind that I rebooted multiple times and it wasn’t until I force closed NWJS that onlykey would open. I rebooted and the portable still opened with no issues. I reinstalled the windows application and it also ran just fine. Basically, the only thing I did to fix it was force close NWJS once.
Do you have another system you can try and install the app on? It is supported on Windows, Mac, Linux. Does your Windows system use an ARM processor? That is not currently supported. It may also be that your EDR/Anti-virus software is blocking the app.
