Firmware update not starting

Two more keys, shipped, took a long time to arrive, original type with six buttons. Took them out of the bubble packs. Thought prudent flash the firmware. Using directions sent to by the site:

" Steps to Upgrade OnlyKey firmware" at bottom of:

download went well:

sha256sum -c <<<“356e25e337dad8fe1798592d5c674ddd44fac1340e054df9d43176f7e59406b2 OnlyKey_Beta7_STD_Orignal.cpp.hex”
OnlyKey_Beta7_STD_Orignal.cpp.hex: OK

Opened the app, and it shows the page, “Load Firmware” similar to that shown on the directions webpage. The only difference is no mention of flashing yellow lights, instead the directions say:

“To load new firmware file to your OnlyKey, click [Choose File], select your firmware file, then click [Load Firmware to OnlyKey].
The OnlyKey will restart automatically when firmware load is complete.”

After pushing the choose file button it gives the navigator, and I click on .OnlyKey_Beta7_STD_Orignal.cpp.hex, and it shows the file name to the right of the button.

Apparently all good so far.

Then nothing happens. The key is in the port, and the light is green. No light flashes, no activity, no messages. The ‘next’ button does nothing. cancel resets to the same splash panel for firmware upload.

I had another key, some years ago, and as I recall there was a number 6 press or something, but that does nothing here.

Any pointers appreciated. Thanks.

Ah, OK, the problem the timing on holding the six, and that there was no prompt to enter the PIN. The light stayed ‘orange’ while the six was held down. (No red flashes as expected). Then upon releasing the light went off. There was no prompt, for a PIN, and nothing on the app that would indicate, but after the light goes off then enter the PIN again. There is no PIN if the key has not been setup, but upload will sit there doing nothing, until ‘next’ is hit.

Might be a second issue, not sure. On the first try the app might not have had read permissions for the file, though it had read permissions for the directory. When the upload button for the firmware file was hit in the app, it listed the file name, as though it had been uploaded, but it could not upload it.

A third issue, the firmware down load link occurs in two places:

1.` https://docs.onlykey.io/upgradeguide.htmlio/upgradeguide.html`
2. `https://docs.onlykey.io/upgradeguide.html#loading-onlykey-firmware`

The first gave a hex file mentioned in the post. The second gives the signed file:

sha256sum -c <<<"f895100a2f828b66ec5335fd676ef659daf87d51bfeecca5fb8bf9b7c8e259bd Signed_OnlyKey_3_0_4_STD.txt"

The second file worked. Given the other issues, I can’t say if the first one did or not.

The upgrade guide is here Upgrade Guide | Docs

Where is the link where you found “OnlyKey_Beta7_STD_Orignal.cpp.hex”? That would be a very early version of OnlyKey firmware from 2018 that is no longer supported.
